Blog Post #5
A paragraph about the new skills you acquired from working on the Web Design assignment. What design principles did you use when designing your website? Be specific; give examples of how you used design principles! Reflect on what you liked/disliked about the assignment. How can you use website design skills in your future career? Post a QR code that links to your website.
I really enjoyed the Web Design assignment. I really wanted to ensure my website flowed and being able to link each tab to the main page made it easy for navigation to the user. I included pictures, banners, and other elements. Something I struggled with was sizing the information so that it would fit on the page. I can use website design skills in the future when making a homeroom website page for my own classroom of third graders.
Think some more about QR codes. In a paragraph, describe a creative way you might use QR codes in your classroom. It's fine to do a Google search for some inspiration.
I would use QR codes in the classrooms for a multitude of things. One idea can be having a QR code link to the schedule for the week so that each student can know what to expect. I can also use QR codes for attendance in the classroom for students to scan when they come in. I can also use QR codes for rules/procedures and or feedback in the classroom on certain activities and tasks.
Draw upon a case study related to ethical use of technology for teacher productivity. Look at this week's practice activity Padlet for a case you might respond to, or generate your own. Paste the case into your blog post (not part of your sentence count). Then write a paragraph in which you suggest how you would address the case and why you believe this is an ethical solution.
Case Study: A school has implemented a new AI-based software designed to help teachers grade assignments more quickly. The tool analyzes student essays for grammar, spelling, and some elements of structure. However, some teachers are concerned that the tool might miss nuanced feedback that students need, like understanding a student’s unique perspective or addressing issues beyond the scope of grammar and basic structure. The teachers are divided: some see the tool as a helpful time-saver, while others worry it could reduce the quality of feedback students receive, ultimately impacting their learning experience.
To answer the following case study I would first look at the AI tool and how it is currently being used for initial grading, focusing on basic aspects like spelling, grammar, and overall structure. From this use of the tool, you can then add a more personalized comment after it runs and finds these standard mistakes. This approach allows teachers to save time on routine tasks while still providing valuable feedback that requires human judgment and attention. This is ethical because it respects both the teacher's time and energy in the workplace and the student's right to receive individualized feedback.
