Blog Journal #3
The standard I chose was from Computer Science (Starting 2025-2026), specifically Grade 3: Strand SC.3.CC: Communication and Collaboration, Standard 2 SC.3.CC.2 : Identify uses of technology and responsible uses of modern communication. Within this standard includes how to use technology to send communication. I see this in the form of parent teacher digital newsletters, weekly emails to the parents, and pop up announcements in the students digital learning platform. Based on my current skill set I would feel comfortable implementing this standard and feel that I can implement the standard well in the classroom.
In the CPALMS, I selected a third grade science resource tool, titled “Words of Science”. I believe this resource can be used in my teaching by helping by showcasing a video on my class's smart board connected to my in person instruction furthering the understanding of the material for the students. For science lessons specifically the resource tool offers a variety of different materials to pull from to reinforce lesson objectives.
Internet searching is important for teachers because it allows them to access accurate resources, research, and educational materials that improve lesson planning and student interactions. A teacher that can use the internet well can provide a better learning experience for students and address a variety of learning needs. Of the internet searching skills introduced this week, the use of advanced search operators like “advanced google search” is something I see myself using more moving forward. This skill helps me in refining searches to get accurate and relevant information while ensuring the materials are trustworthy for my in class lessons. No, I use or have heard of many of the skills introduced in this week’s course material.
At first when I learned about artificial intelligence (AI) my first thoughts were, this will help immensely in the profession and world of education. I see it doing this by providing personalized learning experiences and offering new tools for student engagement in the classroom. AI can be used as a tool to help teachers look at metrics such as student performance data and identify learning gaps from this data, as well as offering tailored resources. AI can also allow more time for teachers to focus on instruction and one-on-one student interactions. However, I do fear that there can become a problem of an over-reliance on technology, which might limit critical human social elements of teaching. In the K-12 school system, it’s important that AI be used as an additional tool, rather than a replacement for, skilled educators, ensuring that the learning experience remains balanced and innovative.
Your blog entry effectively outlines how you plan to integrate technology in the classroom, with a clear focus on the standard SC.3.CC.2, which emphasizes communication and collaboration through modern technology. You demonstrate practical uses of technology like parent newsletters, weekly emails, and digital announcements to facilitate communication, which directly ties to the standard. However, expanding a bit more on how you’ll ensure these communications are engaging or accessible to all parents would strengthen your point. For example, will you use interactive features or provide resources for parents to help at home?
ReplyDeleteYour reference to the “Words of Science” resource is a strong example of how you can enhance your teaching with digital tools. It would be helpful to elaborate more on how this resource specifically supports student learning, such as the types of videos or activities it provides and how it aligns with lesson objectives. More detail here would clarify how the tool adds value to your in-person instruction.
Your reflection on the role of internet searching is insightful, particularly your intention to use advanced search operators. It’s clear you’re committed to finding reliable resources for your lessons. It might be useful to explore how you’ll teach students to use these skills as well, especially if you're introducing them to research techniques in the classroom.
Finally, your balanced view on AI in education is well-considered. While acknowledging AI's potential benefits—such as personalized learning and data analysis—you correctly note concerns about over-reliance on technology. To add more depth, consider discussing specific AI tools or platforms you would use in the classroom. This would show how you plan to apply these ideas practically.
Overall, your blog reflects a thoughtful approach to using technology in education. With a bit more detail and specificity, it would provide an even clearer vision of your teaching strategy.
